Photosystem II (PSII) has a P680 reaction centre containing chlorophyll 'a' that uses light energy to carry out the oxidation (splitting) of water molecules, and to
Cd2+ is known to exchange, with high affinity in a slow reaction, for the Ca2+ cluster's oxidation state via photoactivation of photosystem II microcrystals with effective total spin of S = 1/2 in the singly oxidized S2 state of this cluster. These electrons are used in several ways. First, when the electrons are removed, the water molecule is broken into oxygen gas, which bubbles away, and hydrogen ions, which are used to power ATP Photosystem II (PSII) is a light-driven water:plastoquinone oxidoreductase that uses light energy to abstract electrons from H(2)O, generating O(2) and a proton gradient subsequently used for ATP formation. It consists of a core antenna complex that captures photons, and an electron transfer chain that converts photonic excitation into a charge separation. 2006-10-24 In photosynthetic organisms, the photosystem II (PSII) complex is the primary target of thermal damage. Plants have evolved a repair process to prevent the accumulation of damaged PSII. The repair of PSII largely involves de novo synthesis of proteins, particularly the D1 subunit protein encoded by … Photosystem II is a large protein complex. It is the first protein complex in the light-dependent reactions of oxygenic photosynthesis..
Photosystem II is the first link in the chain of photosynthesis. It captures photons and uses the energy to extract electrons from water molecules. These electrons are used in several ways. First, when the electrons are removed, the water molecule is broken into oxygen gas, which bubbles away, and hydrogen ions, which are used to power ATP

It collects energy over the wavelengths and concentrates it to one molecule which uses the energy to pass one of its electrons on to a series of enzymes1. At the heart of a photosystem lies the reaction center, which is an enzyme that uses light to reduce molecules (provide with electrons). This reaction center is surrounded by light-harvesting complexes that enhance the absorption of light.. Two families of reaction centers in photosystems exist: type I reaction centers (such as photosystem I in chloroplasts and in green-sulphur bacteria) and

Molecular engineering of Photosystem II. We made the first computer models of the D1 and D2 proteins which form the core of photosystem II, by using the X-ray crystallographic structure of Rps. viridis as a template. We have used these to predict sites for modification of the catalytic sites by site-directed mutagenesis.
